KELAB TARIAN KLASIK INDIA ( PUTRA KALAKSHETRA)

INTRODUCTION

Putra Kalakshetra is one of the non-credit co-curricular clubs at Universiti Putra Malaysia which was established in 2001. Now, this club is recognized as a club under the coordination of the Cultural Arts & Heritage Empowerment Section, Student Affairs Division, Universiti Putra Malaysia based on Sanskrit, the word 'kalak' means Art and 'shetra' means a place, which is a meeting place for dance, drama and literature. This club is a platform to develop oneself in Indian classical dance.

The club's highest achievement was when it was crowned as a hopeful club that has the potential to thrive in the future at the Arts Awards Ceremony (MASENI3). Putra Kalakshetra has also won the Cultural Leadership Award (Social Development Cluster) and was a finalist for the Best Team Award at the Putra Ikon Awards Ceremony 2023. Putra Kalakshetra has made many performances in programs organized by UPM such as 'Malam Tunas Budaya', 'Pesta Convokesyen UPM', 'Malam Anugerah FESTIK UPM 2016', 'TEDxUPM 2019' and 'Putra Language and Cultural Day 2022'. Putra Kalakshetra has also performed in various programs outside UPM such as the 'INFINITEEN Program 2022' (Special Deepavali) which was broadcast on TV Okey, 'Youth Craft Asia Program (YOCA) 2022, Sukaseni Malaysia' and 'A Talk with Malaysian Indian Youth Council 2022 (MIYC)' and 'I-Future Program by KPT' in 2024. Putra Kalakshetra has been involved in competitions such as 'UTP Colours of Rangoli 2016' at UTP, 'Deepam Night Universiti Malaya 2016', 'Inter-Varsity Dance 2017 UKM', 'Natyamela 2018', UMT, 'Kalakshetra 1.0 2020' at USM, and 'Thennisai Thendral 1.0 2020', 'Master Of Dance 3.0' in 2023. Apart from that, Putra Kalakshetra has also organized various programs and competitions which It includes artistic elements such as dance, singing and acting. Among them are ‘Bollynaach Showdown 1.0 – 6.0 from 2018 to 2025’, ‘Fitness, Safety, Health & Nutrition Workshop’ in 2019, ‘Talent Fiesta 2020’, 5 ‘Oru Kutti Kathai – Short Film 2021’, ‘Talk the Walk 2021’, ‘Masters of Dance 1.0 &2.0’, ‘Gala Night 21/22’, ‘Dancefloor Gurus 1.0-3.0’ from 2022 to 2025, weekly dance workshops 1.0 to 7.0 in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, and ‘Naa Ready Online Dance Competition’ in 2024.

OBJECTIVES

Mencungkil dan melahirkan bakat-bakat baru dalam kalangan mahasiswa.
Memajukan Kelab Tarian India UPM.
Platform untuk pelajar berkongsi dan mencurahkan idea yang baru dan efisien.
Menyatukan pelajar yang mempunyai minat yang sama dalam tarian.
Menjadi sebuah tempat untuk mahasiswa melepaskan tekanan dan stress dengan mengisi masa terluang mereka melalui platform ini.

VISION

"PUTRA KALAKSHETA is a platform for Universiti Pura Malaysia students to learn about Indian Dance and discover talent in that field. In addition, it makes PUTRA KALAKSHETA one of the best clubs among students."
