Introduction

Students Union Parliament Universiti Putra Malaysia was officiated by Prof. Datin Paduka Setia Dato’ Dr Aini binti Ideris on March 12th 2021. It is an initiative by the Students’ Affairs Division in providing a training platform that is leadership-focused to:

  • Enhance the quality of a systematic leadership training
  • Increase the participation among student leaders
  • Practice an efficient segregation of roles
  • Create a check and balance space between the University management and student representatives

On the note, it was a part of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) idea to instill the spirit of Students Union where their voices were acknowledged as one of the crucial aspects in determining policies of the institutes. Therefore, student leaders will be the members in the Students Union Parliament and their ideas will be brought up as motions that will later on be discussed for a mutual consent. This method will provide a direct opportunity for debates that celebrates differences and cultivate critical thinking strategies.

It is the University’s main focus to inculcate debating culture, collective decision-making processes and a cohesive leadership culture among the students, via the implementation of the Students Union Parliament.
