UPM Student Representative Council Elections 2024 to be Held Online via PutraVoting

Serdang, March 21, 2024 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will conduct its Student Representative Council (PMPPUPM) Elections 2024 on March 21, 2024 (Thursday) using the PutraVoting application. This election will be held entirely online to elect 45 Student Representatives.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) of UPM, Prof. Dr. Arifin Abdu, who also serves as the Advisor to the Election Steering Committee, the campus election will utilize the PutraVoting application. This system has been specifically developed by the Centre for Information and Communication Development (iDEC), UPM.

"PutraVoting represents an upgrade from the previous e-Voting System, aligning with new norms by enabling the entire election process to be conducted online. This transformation facilitates a more efficient and accessible voting process," Prof. Dr. Arifin explained.

Notably, the entire election process for the UPM Student Representative Council will be managed by the Student Representative Council Election Committee (JPMPP), which is composed entirely of UPM students. This initiative demonstrates the university's strong support for the Empowerment of Students Agenda, a key focus of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

Online voting will be open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the election day. It is expected that the unofficial results will be announced by JPMPP at 6:30 PM. The official results of the UPM MPP Election 2024 will be announced online through JPMPP’s official social media channels on March 22, 2024, at 6:00 PM, following the completion of any objections and appeals.

Prof. Dr. Arifin also highlighted that the election will cover 15 faculties and 2 schools at UPM, with each faculty/school selecting two representatives, totaling 34 positions. Additionally, there will be 11 General seats, bringing the total number of positions to 45.

Candidates must adhere to the Universiti Putra Malaysia (Student Representative Council Election) Regulations 2019, which outline the rules and procedures for ensuring a fair and orderly election process.

This election is anticipated to strengthen student voices in campus governance and enhance the quality of student leadership at UPM.
