UPM Serdang, 25 July 2024* - A hearing-impaired student named Sureekah A/P Selvaraja received a Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop with 8GB RAM, valued at RM2950, along with a bag and software from the Student Affairs Division.
The student, currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration at the School of Management and Economics, UPM, expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided, as she comes from a low-income family. Her father is a lorry driver, and her mother is a homemaker.
Since 2022, approximately 100 UPM students from low-income families have been assisted in acquiring laptops. The Student Affairs Division is committed to ensuring that underprivileged students are not left behind in their educational pursuits, in alignment with the mission and vision of the Malaysia Madani Pillars, which prioritize well-being, sustainability, and compassion.
Additionally, UPM is making every effort to support the government's objectives by equipping students with human capital that fosters creativity, respect, and self-confidence for future competitiveness.
In this technological era, owning a laptop is essential for university students, especially in the post-COVID-19 period. Not only does it facilitate the communication between students and lecturers in the delivery of knowledge, but it also helps the university achieve its various annual goals.
It is hoped that the assistance provided will lighten the student's burden and help her achieve excellent academic results.
