Bayan Lepas, 28 June 2025 – Kelab Penggiat Teater Sejagat (PENTAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), proudly represented the university at the Malam Ceritera Murba 2025 (MCM’25) competition held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). MCM’25 is a cultural and arts programme organized by the Majlis Penghuni Desasiswa Aman Damai (MPDAD), USM. Entering its third edition this year, the programme aims to appreciate, preserve, and elevate Malaysia’s rich heritage of folklore and traditional culture through a short theatre competition featuring narratives filled with moral values and meaningful lessons.
This year, MCM’25 highlighted performance themes inspired by Malaysian folktales and the noble values embedded in the works of national arts icon, Tan Sri P. Ramlee. His immense contributions to the fields of film, music, and theatre have left a significant mark on the nation’s cultural landscape, making his body of work the main source of inspiration for this year’s theatrical showcases.
The programme was further enriched by the participation of several distinguished higher education institutions, including the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM), and the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA). Their involvement brought diversity and vibrancy to the stage, demonstrating the programme’s commitment to nurturing artistic talents from across the country.
In this edition, PENTAS achieved an impressive fourth place overall, a testament to the dedication, talent, and artistic excellence displayed by its members. The Student Affairs Division (BHEP) extends its heartfelt congratulations and deepest appreciation to the entire PENTAS team for their tireless efforts and spirited performance throughout the competition. It is hoped that this accomplishment will serve as a source of inspiration for other university communities to continue uplifting and celebrating the nation’s artistic and cultural heritage on larger platforms.
