July 29, 2025, Kulim – A special leadership camp program for students with disabilities (OKU), involving the UPM Student Union, was held from July 29 to 31, 2025, at Hotel Seri Malaysia Kulim, Kedah. The program was attended by 25 participants and led by four (4) facilitators and speakers who are experts in their respective fields.
Dr. Katijjahbe binti Md Ali, Senior Rehabilitation Officer (Physiotherapy) at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Mukhriz; Dr. Wan Ikhlas Wan Mohtar, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Modern Languages & Communication; and Ms. Sharon Ong, a sign language instructor, participated as facilitators and speakers for the camp.
The program was officiated by YBrs. Dr. Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz, a Member of the University Board of Directors, who also served as the lead facilitator.
Mr. Abdullah Arshad, Head of Administration at the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), was also present with the participants, representing the Deputy Vice Chancellor (HEPA) and acting as the camp advisor.
The camp content was tailored to the needs of each participant, emphasizing elements that bring positive impact to their daily lives.
The Student Affairs Division (BHEP) hopes that this camp will serve as a starting point for more initiatives and programs aimed at empowering persons with disabilities in the future. Through this camp, it is hoped that persons with disabilities (OKU) will be given more opportunities to develop their skills, boost their self-confidence, and ultimately be recognized as future leaders who contribute to the nation’s development.
