110th MAKUM Meeting Held Successfully in Pontianak

June 9, 2024, Pontianak – The 110th MAKUM (Majlis Kesukarelawanan Universiti Malaysia) Meeting, Session 1/2024, was held successfully at Universitas Tanjungpura, Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The meeting was attended by 10 public universities (UA) physically and 6 universities online. Additionally, representatives from the Student Affairs Division, JPT KPT, namely Puan Nurul Aida Mohd Nordin (online) and Puan Nur Azreen Hamidi (physically), as well as 3 MAKMA representatives, were present.

Prof. Dr. Arifin bin Abdu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni) of UPM and Chairman of MAKUM, chaired the meeting. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to the MAKUM Secretariat and UNIMAS for organizing the official visit to Universitas Tanjungpura, Pontianak, Indonesia, on this occasion.

Prof. Dr. Arifin also extended his highest congratulations to MAKUM for participating in the Malaysia Festival 2024 at Tumbalong Park, Sydney, Australia, in March. Five universities, namely USM, UPM, UNIMAS, UMK, and UIAM, showcased the "Nuansa Citra Budaya Malaysia," thereby enhancing Malaysia's and MAKUM's reputation on the international stage. The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) also conveyed its congratulations for the successful organization of the MAKUM Arts Awards held on June 5, 2024.

The meeting discussed upcoming programs organized by MAKUM, including the Zapin Sebat Workshop, MADANI Cultural Village, and many more.

Additionally, this meeting marked the first time it was held overseas, coinciding with the official visit scheduled at UNTAN (Universitas Tanjungpura) the following day, where discussions with the Rector of Universitas Tanjungpura will take place. UNTAN was chosen as the location due to its rich cultural heritage, diverse ethnic traditions, and its reputation for offering courses in arts and culture. Notably, UNTAN has consistently excelled in the Borneo Dance Festival, a biennial event in Borneo.

MAKUM is excited and eager to discover the insights and advantages that can be gained from this visit.
