Maulidur Rasul is a significant event in Islamic history celebrated on the 12th of Rabiulawal to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His birth brought immeasurable mercy to the entire universe, as stated by Allah SWT in Surah Al-Anbiya’, verse 107: “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.”
The celebration of Maulidur Rasul is not merely to remember the date of the Prophet’s birth, but also serves as a platform to strengthen our love, appreciation, and understanding of his struggles and noble character. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was sent to guide humanity from the darkness of ignorance to the light of faith. His exemplary traits truthfulness (as-sidq), trustworthiness (amanah), wisdom (fatanah), and delivering the truth (tabligh) make him a timeless role model.
In today’s modern context, the celebration of Maulidur Rasul reminds us of the importance of emulating the Prophet’s noble character when facing the increasingly complex challenges of life. The values of love, justice, mutual help, and tolerance practiced by the Prophet (PBUH) remain highly relevant in shaping a harmonious and prosperous society.
For the campus community in particular, the spirit of Maulidur Rasul can be expressed through participation in knowledge programmes, forums, recitation of salawat, and reflection on the Prophet’s biography (sirah). Such activities not only nurture love for the Prophet (PBUH) but also foster Islamic brotherhood and unity among students of various backgrounds.
Furthermore, love for the Prophet (PBUH) is not merely expressed through words, but must be shown through deeds. Emulating his trustworthiness in responsibilities, discipline in seeking knowledge, and good manners in social interactions are reflections of true devotion to him.
Indeed, commemorating Maulidur Rasul is not just an annual ceremony, but an opportunity to renew our pledge and determination as followers of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). May by internalising his teachings and Sunnah, we become a knowledgeable, noble, and dedicated ummah, contributing to the religion, nation, and country.
