Amidst the towering buildings that bear witness to thousands of dreams, in the corridors of knowledge that guide the steps of those seeking hope, there exists a story larger than merely the pursuit of education. It’s not just about lecture halls and exams, but about hearts willing to give, hands ready to help, and souls that constantly breathe love.
This is the story of Jiwa Putra, not just a program at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), but a journey in shaping individuals. Here, students learn that the university is not only a place to acquire knowledge but also a place to plant goodwill, sow love, and reap pride.
Jiwa Putra: Where Knowledge Merges with Service
The world moves rapidly today, and people are increasingly busy chasing success. Amidst this rush, the value of humanity sometimes gets sidelined. However, at UPM, there is still space to return to the roots of kindness. Jiwa Putra emerges as a voice reminding us that knowledge is not only measured by academic excellence but also by how much we can give.
This program is not merely an event for visibility but a mission to develop students with noble hearts, those who understand that success is not just about what is owned but also about what is shared.
From Heart to Heart: Jiwa Putra in Every Step
Jiwa Putra 1.0—Walkabout
On September 4-5, 2024, a walkabout session was carried out. A walkabout is a journey or survey to identify areas in need of attention by the university or the Jiwa Putra team. A group of 86 students was divided into zones to carry out the survey for further action.

Jiwa Putra 2.0—Touching the Earth, Touching the Heart
On September 24-27, 2024, over 300 students gathered on campus, not to attend lectures as usual, but for something more meaningful. Their hands lifted brooms and paint, and they put their energy to work with full devotion.
Under the hot sun, sweat dripped, and their hands became dirty, but their hearts became purer. The gotong-royong (community service) was not just about cleaning the campus but about reminding themselves that this is a second home, and this home must be cared for with love. As their hands worked, their hearts filled with a sense of satisfaction, not from what they received but from what they gave.

Jiwa Putra 3.0—Planting Trees, Planting Hopes
On October 12, 2024, thousands of new students marked their first steps at UPM with something different. They were not just welcomed with briefings and orientations but with a tree they had to plant with their own hands.
In that small seed, dreams were sown. In the roots beginning to grip the earth, there was hope. Just like the tree that will one day grow tall, their journey of knowledge also requires patience, dedication, and determination.
Every time they walk around the campus and see that tree, they will remember where they started and where they will grow. Here, they learn that helping is not just about giving money, but about giving time, energy, and a sincere heart.

Jiwa Putra: Building Students Who Understand the Meaning of Life
Jiwa Putra is not just a program; it is a life academy.
Jiwa Putra, the Soul of Us All
Before stepping out of this university one day, it will not just be the certificates that remain as memories, but every drop of sweat that once fell, every tree that was once planted, and every touch given to the world around us. Ultimately, success is not about who owns the most, but about who gives the most. At UPM, Jiwa Putra has taught us that knowledge is not for hoarding but for sharing so that the world becomes a more beautiful place, one small step in love.
Jiwa Putra is not just about today. It is about all of us, forever. With Knowledge We Serve.
