The concept of Amal Makruf Nahi Mungkar, which means encourage righteousness & discourage wrongdoing is a crucial principle in a Muslim's life, especially for university students who are in the process of shaping their identity.
The Student Affairs Division has launched the Amar Makruf Nahi Mungkar Campaign among students of Universiti Putra Malaysia. One of the forms of wrongdoing that requires serious attention is the act of being alone in close proximity (khalwat) between a male and a female who are not mahram (unmarriageable kin). Such situations not only go against Islamic ethics but can also tarnish the reputation of the students and the institution. In the university context, this act can be classified as a disciplinary offence that may lead to disciplinary action.
As responsible university students, we should advise and remind one another in a respectful and wise manner. Offering a reminder does not mean passing judgment — it is a sign of care. Maintain relationships with fellow students within clear and respectful boundaries.
Dignity is not something that can be replaced. Don’t trade your self-worth for a relationship with no certainty. Amal makruf nahi mungkar is not just a religious reminder, but a foundation for building a healthy and principled campus community.
