A notable collaboration between two leading public universities, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), has launched the "Look East Policy Student Mobility Program 2024: A Joint Collaboration UPM and USM (Malaysia) & Kyutech (Japan)" from May 4 to 19, 2024. This program, which marks a significant milestone, is initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in partnership with UPM, USM, Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), and Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech), Japan.
This inaugural program at Kyutech involves 15 UPM students and 10 USM students majoring in Applied Chemistry and Civil Engineering. The students will engage in a range of academic and practical activities at Kyutech, including learning sessions, collaborative research projects, and industrial visits aimed at broadening their knowledge and experience in their respective fields.
This collaboration is part of UPM and USM's ongoing efforts to foster international student mobility. Since 2012, UPM has established a student exchange network with Kyutech, involving a total of 1,850 students from both institutions. The program provides students with opportunities to deepen their academic knowledge, enhance global skills, and promote cultural understanding between Malaysia and Japan.
Over the two-week period, students will participate in various activities, including academic seminars, visits to advanced research laboratories, and cultural events designed to promote cultural exchange between Malaysia and Japan. Additionally, they will take part in discussions and workshops focused on practical skills development and problem-solving within their fields.
This initiative is expected to strengthen academic and professional ties between the two universities and open up further opportunities for future collaboration. It also aligns with MOHE’s goals of promoting student mobility and expanding international networks in higher education.
Through this program, it is hoped that students will gain valuable experiences and build international networks that will support their future careers. Both UPM and USM are committed to enhancing these efforts and making student mobility a key aspect of higher education in Malaysia.
