CHARACTER AS A REFLECTION OF STUDENT QUALITY

By: Nureedayu Zapuri

In today’s increasingly challenging higher education environment, student character has become one of the key aspects that reflects an individual’s quality and personality. University students are not only evaluated based on their academic achievements, but are also observed through their behaviour, communication ethics, discipline, and the way they conduct themselves in daily life. Therefore, the development of good character should be given serious attention as it serves as the foundation for producing students who are both high-quality and possess strong integrity.

Positive character can be seen through attitudes such as mutual respect, responsibility, and ethical behaviour in every action. In the context of higher education institutions, students with admirable character are more capable of adapting to the campus environment and building positive social relationships with lecturers, peers, and the surrounding community. In addition, well-mannered students tend to demonstrate higher levels of discipline in time management, commitment to academic responsibilities, and participation in co-curricular activities. This indirectly contributes to the development of graduates who are not only academically excellent, but also possess strong professional values.

In the modern world influenced by technology and social media, university students also face major challenges in maintaining good character. The uncontrolled use of social media may negatively affect a student’s image and reputation if it is not used ethically. Therefore, students must be wise in controlling their behaviour and communication to ensure that they consistently reflect positive values and maturity. A responsible attitude in the digital world is essential to ensure that students can become good role models within society.

In conclusion, character is a primary reflection of the quality of a university student. The development of good character not only helps produce disciplined and ethical individuals, but also enhances the overall image of higher education institutions. Students who possess both knowledge and admirable character will become valuable assets to the development of society and the nation in the future.
