[01/02/2018] Korat International Arts And Culture Festival 2018, Thailand

KORAT, 1 FEB, 2018–12 Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) students from the Adimastuli Dance Club represented Malaysia in the Korat International Arts and Culture Festival 2018 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand from 31 January 2018 to 8 February 2018.

Among the dance showcasted by the members of the club were Zapin Rajuk Rindu, Laksamana Raja Di Laut, Nirmala, Inang Empat Dara and Joget Jambu Merah in the open space of the Suranaree Monument Square. They were joined by delegates from India, Sri Lanka, China, Brunei, Ghana, Rusia, Thailand, Greece, Bangladesh and Indonesia who performed their traditional dances. The opening performance was attended by the Minister of Culture, Thailand.

Adimastuli Dance Club also carried out cross culture program with students from Wittaya Nakhon Ratchasima High School. Members of the club introduced and taught several Malaysian traditional dances to the students. In exchange the members of the club also learned some dances from the high school students. This side program was carried out in collaboration with the Student Affairs Division, UPM

The Vice Minister of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Mr. Bamrung Charoenpot said that cultural exchange program is an important element in the development of high school students in Nakhon Ratchasima province. He was also thankful to UPM for being part of the program and the great sucess of the culture exchange program.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman who attended the program said that program such as this is indeed important to the social development of younger generation and brings together people from various cultures and values. Prof Roslan attended the MOU signing ceremony alongside delegates from other participating countries. He hoped that UPM students could organize smilar program such as this in the near future.

Besides spreading the beauty of Malaysian culture to schools in Thailand, UPM students also participated in cross cultural program in Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University. They entertained the students with traditional dances alongside participating countries.

This program has opened up opportunities for UPM students to introduce and promote the unique arts and culture of Malaysia to the world. Other students should be proud in maintaining the heritage of Malaysia's pride.
